WATER SAVING TIPS
Last modified: March 24, 2007 - 10:59 AM
There are many simple things you can do in your garden to save water, money and the environment. Here are a few easy ideas to practice when you are pottering around outdoors: Don't mow your lawn too short - taller grass retains water Wash your car on the lawn and use a bucket - this way you can save water, as well as water and fertilise your lawn If you need a watering system consider installing a drip irrigation or micro-irrigation system. They cut wastage by making sure the water goes only where you need it. Regularly check your outdoor taps, pipes and plumbing fixtures for leaks. Just one dripping tap can waste 5000 litres a month Instead of hosing paths, patios and driveways, use a broom or a rake. You'll be able to save up to 18 litres of water a minute
